Simple Suggestions For What To Wear To Your Maternity Session | Northern VA Newborn Photographer

As experts in maternity photography, we believe your portraits should be intimate, exquisite, and unique. Maternity pictures are a poignant and timeless way to celebrate your pregnancy, your body and, especially, your baby. So, it’s not unusual that many of our clients across Northern Virginia, including Great Falls, VA & Cascades, VA often ask us what they should wear for their portraits.

Here are some tips to keep in mind for your maternity pictures.

Long dress or gown
A long, flowing dress can be extremely feminine and ethereal on your body. Whether you choose a fancy gown, flowing dress or a piece of fabric across your body, it can evoke the femininity and beauty of pregnancy. The look of a long gown can be timeless and ethereal.

Form-fitting
Some women feel the most beautiful in a form-fitting dress. Others would rather not wear one. Either one is perfectly all right! A form-fitting dress accentuates your curves and body. If you’ve never been brave enough to wear one, you might want to try one now in your last trimester when your curves are at their most dramatic!

Lace
Lace whether as a trim or covering is graceful and elegant. In the right outfit, it can be fun as well! It’s a particularly beautiful and appropriate choice during your final trimester of pregnancy when your body is at its most voluptuous.

Avoid Trendy
Like with most portraits, we recommend that you avoid anything trendy. A timeless look or style is best. Today’s fashion trends will soon be outdated and appear even more out of style in twenty years when you look back at your portraits. If you can’t find anything classic and timeless in your wardrobe, take this opportunity to buy a new outfit!

Keep It Simple
Yes, jewelry can enhance a portrait, but it could also distract from the most important part of the picture – you! Keep it simple. Again, what’s fashionable today in clothing and jewelry is tomorrow’s old fashion statement. Sometimes the most beautiful thing you can add to an outfit is something very modest — or nothing extra at all. You can be the focus of the portrait.

Color & Patterns
Pick a flattering color for your skin tone, and we usually recommend keeping patterns to a minimum. When it comes to photography, patterns and designs, like too many accessories, can distract from the overall look and feel of the portrait. Two Outfits
Bring at least two outfits to your session, so you have options and have more looks to select from later when you’re choosing your portraits.

The Perfect Age for Newborn Portraits and Why | Northern VA Baby Photography

As baby photography specialists in the Great Falls, VA area, we suggest you have newborn portraits taken during the first week (7 days) of a baby’s life. During those precious early days, the baby is sleepy as if still in the womb with their tiny toes, fingers, and little bodies still curled up tight. The portraits can capture them in their most delicate, natural and beautiful state. It’s an ideal time – and behavior – for photographing them.

When to Schedule

We suggest contacting our studio while you are in the early days of your last trimester so that we can discuss your due date. We keep several slots open to accommodate our newborn portraits because, let’s face it, babies come when they want! As an experienced newborn photographer, we know that babies are easiest to pose for pictures during those first 7 days of life, so it’s a critical window of opportunity. Contacting us in advance allows both you and our portrait studio to plan for your session.

Newborn Sessions

Whether you choose a newborn portrait session or invest in our Bebe Coterie plan for your child’s first year of life, we will provide you with all the guidance and advice you need for an exceptional experience and beautiful portrait outcomes.

We will discuss with you ideas for poses and outfits if you’d like to dress your baby for his or her session, but most newborn portraits look best without anything on them. You can also get more ideas from our Galleries, both Newborn and Bebe Coterie. If you have a family heirloom you’d like included in the portrait, let us know in advance. Most importantly, we like to include the parents in at least several of your newborn’s portraits!

5 Ways to Show Love to Your Baby! | Northern VA Baby Photographer

Love is on everyone’s mind these days with Valentine’s Day just a week away! Our newborn photography in the Great Falls, VA area affords us the delightful opportunity to interact frequently with babies, families, and even love itself!

Working with a portrait photography studio to commemorate the lives of your children through portraiture is a beautiful legacy you create for them to enjoy as adults. However, there are many other ways, of course, to demonstrate your love for your newborn.

Here are five of our favorite ways to express love for your baby:

1. Tell your baby you love them while you cuddle them. They might not understand the words yet, but they will begin to equate the soothing and loving sounds of your voice with the phrase and, more importantly, with the feel of your love.
